Rev. Dr. Brad King
Senior Pastor (Pastor)Brad grew up in east Texas (Nacogdoches). There he attended an Episcopal church as a youth and adolescent all the way up until he started asking questions that people couldn’t (or, perhaps, didn’t want to) answer. He lost interest in the church, but never stopped walking with God, whom he pursued in both private prayer and academic study.
From about the age of 20, Brad thought he would spend his life as a college professor, teaching and researching about the languages and cultures associated with early Christianity, but in the last few years of his doctoral work, he realized that he wanted to be in the church, teaching, preaching, and working to answer the kinds of questions he’d had when he was an annoying teenager (as opposed to an annoying adult).
For the last four years, Dr. King has been appointed as an associate pastor at First United Methodist Church of Austin. There he focused on adult education, congregational care, and academic outreach.
Brad is passionate about walking with Christ, teaching and studying about scripture, and building a church where all people are not only welcomed and affirmed but are invited to bring their whole selves and make themselves at home.
